SEARCH HELP

The "search engine" which drives this contractor data base has two separate functions:

Searching for an individual contractor by name:

Enter the name of the contractor you are looking for. It is not necessary to enter the contractor's entire name.

If you are searching for John F. Otto, Inc., for instance, just enter Otto and then either hit "enter" on your keyboard, or scroll down the page to the "Search Contractor" icon. Similarly, you need only to enter Harbison when searching for Harbison-Mahony-Higgins.

If your search entry brings up more than one contractor, scroll through the list to find the contractor you want.

When you find the contractor you are looking for, click on the contractor's name to bring up the contractor's information screen.

To search for additional contractors by name, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Search Contractor icon for each new selection.

Searching for contractors using the drop-down menus:

This type of search responds to the information you enter into the drop-down menus available, depending upon how you want to conduct your search.

Search Area:

First, select your geographical search area.

Our search engine provides three different ways to designate the geographical area in which you want to search for contractors:

1. If you want to search the entire jurisdictional area of a particular local union, find that local union in the "Local Union" drop-down menu. This will give you a listing of contractors whose offices are located within the jurisdiction of the local union you select.

2. If you want to search in one or more counties, find that county (or counties) in the "County " drop-down menu. This will give you a listing of contractors whose offices are located within the counties selected.

3. If you want to search in a coverage area, find that area in the "Coverage Area" drop-down menu. This will give you a list of contractors who are willing to perform work within that coverage area.

Contractor Type:

Second, select the type of contractor you are looking for (click on the "Contractor Type" link for a list of contractor types in the data base)

Once you have determined how you want to designate the location of the search, you may use the "Primary Category" menu to select the type of contractor you are looking for. Finally, using the "General Contractor/Subcontractor" menu, you may limit your search to general contractors, subcontractors or both.

So, for example, if you are looking for paving contractors with offices in the area covered by Local 73, you would select Local 73 from the Local Union drop-down menu, and Paving in the Contractor Type menu. You may then select from the General Contractor/Subcontractor menu, and then hit "enter' on your keyboard or click on the Search button at the bottom of the page. The result will be a list of paving contractors (general subcontractors and/or general contractors) with offices located within the three counties covered by Local 73.

If you were looking for paving contractors whose offices are in San Joaquin County, you would use the County drop-down menu instead of the Local 73 menu. Everything else in your search criteria would remain the same.

If you were looking for paving contractors who are willing to work in the Stockton Coverage Area (click on the "Coverage Area" link from the left Sub-Menu for a listing of the coverage areas), you would use the Coverage Area drop-down menu. Everything else in your search criteria would remain the same as in the first example above.

Contractor Lists:

Once you have a list of contractors on the computer screen, you can click on the name of each individual contractor to access the pop-up screen containing information about that particular contractor. To return to the list of contractors, click on the "close window" button in the contractor detail box.

To continue your search for other types of contractors or other locations, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Search button for each new selection.

Note: You may search for more than one location and/or type of work at the same time by following directions on the search screen.
